Welcome to the People's Record Label. (Yes, we trademarked that.)
Let's get something straight, right from the jump. We do NOT hate the record companies.
We really don't. In fact, Luda works with all the big labels and thinks they make
great music.
So why did we start WeMix? 3 reasons.
First, we think there's a huge garden of untapped musical talent out there—but industry
politics are preventing them from getting love from the best creative minds in the
business.
Second, we think technology is changing everything. Digital tools have made it simple
for everyone to lay down beats and tracks. The internet has made it easy to share
ideas and collaborate. Great songs are about samples and layers, about bits and
pieces and teamwork—and the web is the best place where this kind of worldwide collaboration
can go down.
Third, we're pretty damn sure that the old way of making records is a thing of the
past. A&R, marketers, the radio game, million-dollar videos, predictable producers—this
system makes it really tough for new blood or new ideas to rise to the top.
We saw all these things and we said to ourselves, "Let's just build a place where
people can show off their music, hook up with the biggest stars in the game, and
see what happens."
We think we've built a better way to make music, and we hope that after you hang
out at WeMix, you'll agree. So here's our 98% satisfaction guaranteed promise to
you:
- WeMix is YOUR record label.
We get bummed out when we think of all the talent who never got a shot back in the
day because the system was closed. Your music, your voice, and your opinions will
always have a place here. We think that you—the WeMix community—can do everything
that a record company can do. All you need is a place to come together and create
together. And now you have one.
- We love all kinds of music.
WeMix isn't a straight-up hip-hop site. You might know Luda as a hip-hop superstar,
but his passion is good music, pure and simple. Regardless of whether you're a rapper,
a rocker or a banjo-picking bluegrass hero, this is the place to come together and
make music together.
- We don't have an A&R Department.
You are the eyes and ears of WeMix. If you dig an artist or a song, it's up to you
to tell your friends and get it out there. WeMix is all about word of mouth - and
that's the way it will always be.
- We don't have stylists either.
We don't care if you're the sexiest musician in the world or if you're butt ugly.
Everyone gets the same deal here: create a great song, blow it up inside our community,
and we'll hook you up with the best in the business to make a real record, with
a real cut of the profits.
- We have lawyers, but not too many of them.
We're not here to take your music or take advantage of you. WeMix is always free.
Your songs are yours and they belong to you, until we decide to pitch in and make
your record together. And when we do that, you'll get a cash bonus and a REAL split
of the publishing, which is a better deal than the big labels will give. But if
you do go out and make a deal with another record company, we want the right to
match the offer and keep you here, where you belong. That's it.
- There's a place for everyone here.
Making your song with a rock star is just the icing on the cake. When WeMix officially
launches, members will have the ability to give feedback, comments, encouragement
and support to one another. You'll be able to collaborate digitally with other members,
and you'll be able to create original music inside our digital playground, using
samples, beats, and vocals from the community. And if you DON'T want to collaborate
with a rock star, you can make that choice with a simple click of the button.
- We're building something bigger and better.
This is not a song contest. WeMix is a movement, a place where everyone is connected
by one universal language: music. As we hear from you and the site evolves, we'll
add new tools to help you make great music right here. We're also making friends
with other stars who want to collaborate with the world, and with you. So stick
around—with your help this thing will explode.
- We are always open to new ideas.
We built it, but you own it. You're the future of the music business and you're
the community that makes this site real. If there's something you hate, something
you love, or something you want to add to WeMix, we want to hear about it.
- Music is awesome.
We'll never forget that. Don't think of WeMix as a website or a contest or a TV
show. WeMix is your chance to call the shots and put music back in your hands, where
it belongs.
Peace,
Ludacris
